When it comes to show nature in all its splendour, French movie makers are among the best to do so. Indeed in 2001, Jacques Perrin mesmerized us with “Winged Migration”. Then in 2003, Luc Jacquet amazed us with “Marsh of the Penguins” and won an Oscar as well as 11 other awards. In 2007, he came back with a wonderful tale… maybe a children’s tale… yet, everybody should have a look at it…

He is telling a tale of an amazing, yet pretty unlikely, friendship between: “The fox and the child”. A breath-taking photography brings the viewer along on a wonderful journey in French mountains (though for the needs of the movie, was shot in France, Italy and Romania).

Nature like you’d dream to witness and a friendship that very few of us can relate to! Furthermore, Luc Jacquet proves once again that there is nothing more beautiful than untouched wilderness… taming becoming an illusion and that one can never bottle up Nature. “I mistook possession for love.” would say the grown up child…

This is an unforgettable story… an unmissable experience…

Last Look at Eden: the 8th studio album

Europe is still on top of its game! first single from upcoming album is really cool! Disturbing tunes that need some time adjusting to but then catchy ^_^ After two times, it is  now officially stuck in my ears…

The video is simple and nothing extraordinary if it is for seeing the band enjoying every minute of playing together… Some very nice visual effects, more to show that they had fun making the video than real big effects. (I am not a big fan of music videos… this one was a pretext to finally listen to the new song ^_^)

The lyrics are as always brilliant! There are not so many artists who have such a gift with Lyrics… I know, it is no news to anyone who knows Europe’s work, still I am astounded every time.

It works like so: pick a general subject, sing like you are singing in private to each and every listener, connect in such a way that everybody can relate to the words you sing… and bingo, you’ve got a winner ^_^

That is for just one song… imagine how the album is going to sound!
The video brought a big smile on my face and a familiar warm feeling in my heart.

Last Look at Eden: Video of brand new single

I am not much of a “reality show” kind of girl, though I must admit that since I have discovered it, I became somewhat an addict of talent show “so you think you can dance”. Last season has brought me chills and occasionally tears to my eyes as I followed the dancers through the competition. I ruled for many (if not all of them), but as every games needs them, my heart sank for the talented contestants that were eliminated and leapt for the winner. Therefore, I am as glad as the judges to see two of them (so far) come back to the stage.

On such a show, the talent is everywhere, from the dancers… to the choreographers, who are very inventive and innovative… to the stylists… to the music, which enhanced my CD collection with artists like Rob Thomas, John Mayer and Imogen Heap.

The show is no masterpiece, indeed the extremely loud and frequent cheering prevent it from becoming one. Do not get me wrong, I am not against enthusiasm and energetic displays of joy… but often, too much is too much. Nonetheless, I bear with it because it is highly diverting.

That being said, I found myself extremely shocked with Nigel Lythgoe’s comment to the male ballroom dancers. They looked very nervous and I guess they had to gather even more courage than other contestant to come up to that stage and dance a routine that is supposed to be a man/woman routine. Nigel underlined a few times that he was criticising the dancing part, but he could not make it so. He made inappropriate comments about one of the dancers’ sexual preferences… sorry, not his business! The judges were so confused that their comments did not make much sense to me and were neither constructive nor professional… Nigel said that he would like to see them dance with a female partner, and who knew they might even like it… that was the most inappropriate of all.

I have an idea: what if M. Lythgoe were the straight contestant, judge by a gay man and was told to dance with a male partner, that he might even like it… it sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it. All I have heard last season on the show were messages of tolerance; where have these gone?

Last season again, the routine danced on John Mayer’s song “Waiting on the World to Change” brought unjustified reaction (according to me) from the military and M. Lythgoe hurried to make a public apology to the soldiers who might have had their feelings hurt by artists praising peace and tolerance in the world. That is not being unpatriotic by the way…

I wish Nigel would step up and publicly apologize to the dancers. Because, even though he is entitled to his own opinion, he should know better. ART is all about TOLERANCE.

So to be clear, if I say that he should not have said or shared his opinion on the matter, it does not mean I am intolerant. I understand that he thinks the way he does… I do not agree with him, but I respect that he does not think like me… making it public the way he did is wrong though, that is what I condemn. I wish someone had said something.

Sometimes, it happens that one takes Beauty straight in the face without any warning. Our planet offers us so many wonders that it is difficult to name them all; however, when one expects it the least, one can be allowed to witness such majesty that one forgets to breathe for a few seconds.

I am a TV addict and a fan of good series, but never had I watched something so compelling… never had I been awed like that… never had my heart been so full of hundreds of feelings as I watched something.

“Remember” is still the key word in my heart and mind… WWII was… well you all know what it was, yet still today the world hosts survivors and executioners… still today, some people are making money out of the atrocity perpetrated in concentration camps. I hate this idea and I hate that I feel hate. But I am no God and so my power of forgiveness stops where forgiveness is unbearable and unthinkable to grant.

The year is 2009 and my greatest wish is that never, in mankind history, the atrocities of WWII will ever be forgotten.

I have seen a great movie this weekend, that is a remake of another movie telling of true events: Valkyrie.

I have seen episode 22 of season 5 of series CSI: NY. Gary Sinise was the producer of the episode and the heartfelt story made me want to applaud. If there is one episode to see from that particular serie, that would be it. Remember that still today, war criminals from the Holocaust can be brought to justice. Still today, survivors and descendants of victims fight to bring closure and peace of mind to those who suffered at the hands of their executioners. “Remember” no matter your religion, beliefs, social belonging… “Remember” and make sure the next generation does.

Do you look back sometimes? I mean, do you look back to the times you had no other responsibility than getting good grades… I often think of my high school time, because I had a good interaction with my teachers. However, I was part [...]

[The column continues on The Optimist]

Logical sequel of predecessor “Casino Royale”, “Quantum of Solace“ puts brand new secret agent James Bond on a quest to avenge the death of the woman he loved. At the same time, a powerful network reaps a lot of money and as the British Services interrogate a suspect on the matter, M escapes a murder attempt. Bond, good hero that he is, pursues the culprit. His steps will lead him to Greene, a famous developer of environmental technology, who has a nasty plan for Bolivia. Now, when I hear James Bond, I have the systematic sketch of action, Bond girl, macho dialogues, and more action: entertainment as many expect it to be. Though, since Bond became “007″, the plots have thickened… the pace has quickened… the macho is less macho, though has a very disturbing way of not caring in front of death… at least, it is how I perceived him to be.

Daniel Craig is probably the only credible Bond nowadays; I find him a very convincing successor to Sir Sean Connery (no offence to Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Pierce Brosnan). The supporting actors gave more depth to Craig’s character, which ultimately made the movie much more interesting than I anticipated. As always, Dame Judi Dench brings the extra British touch that I really like.

Bond movies have always bored me, but I find the approach by director Marc Forster (The Kite Runner, Stranger than Fiction, Finding Neverland, Monster’s Ball) refreshing. I did not yawn once and the pace sometimes made me dizzy. If you are opting to watch this movie, you need to know that you must pay attention from start to end, because as much as the action is fast, the story bounces often which is quite remarkable. It is never boring and the DVD will be worth the buy.
